“We proudly present… the Village Voices!” Come join the celebration this Saturday and Sunday afternoons, May 7 and 8, at 2:30 p.m. as the Village Voices present “Why We Sing— The Power of Music” on the Cribari stage. Buy your tickets at the door for $15, cash or charge to your house. Under the direction of Susan Ahlgrimm, the spirited choral performances, some combined with dance, will present a collage of songs showing the power of music on our emotions. From the beat of “Fascinating Rhythm” to joys of “Friendship” sung by the men, you can experience the toe-tapping, skin-tingling rhythms, all part of the power of music. Sometimes the power escapes belief. Can you imagine too much rain! “Don’t Let the Rain Fall Down” gives The Village Dancers, under the direction of Bernice Toy, a chance to express the dire concerns in a world with too much rain. The “cats” sneak in at intermission. While Brigid Moreton, soprano, opens with a solo in “Memory,” the Wicked Dancers, a second dance troupe, will prowl around in support of the lament. Music and its interpretation through dance affect our emotions in powerful ways. For a change of pace, Tamara Welsh, Voices’ accompanist, will play a piano solo based on a Lithuanian folk song. Why do they sing? Why do they love music? “I love the melody and the harmony. It brings me peace,” said Janis Hubbs, president of Village Voices. “I sing because I can!” exclaimed new Voices member Myra Johnson. By singing individually and in unison, “…it makes us better.” The Voices choral group wishes you all the laughter, joy, and healing power of music. The Village Voices is part of The Villages Music Society (VMS), Inc., a 501 (c) (3) corporation . Donate or volunteer today at villagesmusicsociety. org. The VMS provides residents of The Villages Golf and Country Club opportunities to participate in music programs and promotes a high standard of performance and appreciation of music and the arts within the Villages.
